Gove has been engaged in first-person history interpretation since 2011. He is currently a director of the Colonial Heritage Foundation, which sponsors the Western United States' largest American colonial living and reenactment event: The Colonial Heritage Festival. You can schedule Gove to deliver a lecture on America's five lost founding values. Here's a summary:

At least seven values were core to the culture of America at the of the nation's founding. Of these seven, only two are part of the national identity today: liberty and justice. In addition to these two, five others defined what it meant to be an American in the late 18th century. This lecture focuses the following five:

  1. Divine Providence: Acknowledging a higher power is integral to America’s identity, reminding citizens of their greater purpose and responsibility.
  2. Private Virtue: Upholding individual morality is crucial for the preservation of freedom, as personal integrity strengthens societal values.
  3. Work Ethic: Hard work and dedication are foundational to the American spirit, driving innovation and prosperity for individuals and the nation.
  4. Liberal Education: A well-rounded education fosters critical thinking and informed citizenship, essential for a thriving democracy.
  5. Public Virtue: Sacrifices for the common good, as demonstrated by historical figures like Washington, are vital for uniting communities and advancing collective interests.

Through stories taken from the founding generation, professor Allen will help you understand how these values shaped America, why we no longer view them as part of our national identity and how engaging with these ideals on an individual level will strengthen our communities and nation.
